Glossary
- curved stairlift
-
The 'curved' modifier refers to the type of staircase that the stairlift can accommodate. Staircases with any type of curvature,
multiple landings--essentially any more sophisticated than a straight staircase--can only be accommodated by a curved stairlift.
- perch stairlift
-
This is a sort of stairlift that does not have a full seat. Instead of sitting, the passenger stands on a platform and can sort
of lean against the unit for support. The raison d'etre for a lift such as this becomes clear when one considers that some
people have trouble with genuflexion (knee-bending).
- stairlift
-
This should be clear, but in case it's not: a stairlift is a mechanical device that aids a person's ascending and descending of
stairs.
- straight stairlift
-
Rather than refering to the stairlift's sexual orientation, the 'straight' modifier denotes that the stairlift can only
accommodate a straight staircase with no landings or interruptions. A staircase more complex than that would require a curved
stairlift.
